Made in BC from old-growth wood
In our last video we explored how BC is conserving millions of hectares of old-growth forest for future generations. These conservation efforts are balanced with the sustainable management of a working forest that includes old growth.
Now let’s look at some of the speciality forest products made by British Columbians from old-growth wood – products we use every day.
Old-growth wood has a number of advantages– including its fine grain and structural characteristics – which is why it’s in demand with architects and custom builders around the world.
BC’s value-added wood manufacturing sector depends on a supply of this specialty timber to support hundreds of jobs in the province. Local manufacturers add value and manpower, turning this timber into specialty products. Everyone is keen to see an increase in domestic manufacturing and value-added processing in the province. To sustain and grow, the sector needs old-growth fibre.
