North Island Forestry Academy

North Island high school students are getting hands-on forestry experience, thanks to the Forestry Academy.

The Forestry Academy is a course that is outside of the regular timetable. When students sign up for it, they’re going above and beyond their other courses and choosing to come out on the North Island to learn specifically about forestry. They go in the Fall and in the Spring, and they sign up to be outside of the school for approximately 9 to 10 hours per day.

“We try to have a really broad coverage of all different topics related to forestry. Every day that we’ve done the program, I’ve made sure that we’re paired up with somebody, either from industry or independent contractors.” – Adrian Pedergast, Vice Principal, Port Hardy Secondary School
