Festival of Forestry Welcomes Teachers
Each year, the Festival of Forestry takes a group of BC school teachers into the forest to learn about sustainable forest management practices. The purpose of these tours is to educate participants about BC’s forestry industry through hands-on learning experiences and to provide teaching methods they can take back to their classrooms.
This year’s three-day tour was hosted near Port Alberni and included walks in the forests, visits to active forest management areas, protected areas, and tours of processing facilities. Teachers also got the opportunity to speak with forestry professionals and to learn about the many careers within the forest sector.
Forestry Friendly Communities joined this year’s tour to hear about the experience straight from teachers. Watch our video, and for more great stories about coastal BC’s forest sector, be sure to like our Facebook page.
